[How to] Extend more file format support for Windows Media Center in Windows 7

We know Windows Media Center in Windows 7 supports only several file formats in default. In order to extend more file format support for Windows Media Center, here is a workround to make it.

First of all, we need a registry hack to add the ability to display more files of other formats to Windows Media Center.

Copy the followings to a new document text and save as a MCE.reg and add it to the registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.RM]

"PerceivedType"="video"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.RMVB]

"PerceivedType"="video"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.DAT]

"PerceivedType"="video"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.MP4]

"PerceivedType"="video"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.MOV]

"PerceivedType"="video"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.TS]

"PerceivedType"="video"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.TP]

"PerceivedType"="video"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.MKV]

"PerceivedType"="video"

And now, it's time for the codecs. K-Lite Codec Pack + K-Lite Codec Pack v5.05 Final is a nice choice.
